Visual Stress

Visual stress is the discomfort / distortions caused by printed text and patterns. It is associated with headaches, migraines and dyslexia.

Some common signs of visual stress are text moving on the page, text shimmering and problems reading for prolonged periods of time.

Coloured Overlay Assessment

One of the ways we can help with visual stress is to use coloured overlays. We can do this by performing a coloured overlay assessment, finding the correct colour that helps reduce the visual stress. In some patients this has a profound impact on their ability to read and improved their visual comfort.

What to do if you think you or your child is suffering from visual stress…

Step 1.

A full eye examination is required (NHS eligible for anyone under 16)

Step 2.

A visual stress and coloured overlay assessment is conducted (£50)

Step 3.

The required tints are ordered in an overlay (included in the consultation fee)
