Clarity Backed by Expertise
How does an eye examination at an independent practice differ from high-street chains?
1
At our practice, eye care is never rushed. Unlike typical 15–20 minute retail exams, our comprehensive appointments allow generous time (typically 40–60 minutes). This gives our optometrists time to thoroughly examine your ocular health, listen to your visual demands (screen work, driving, hobbies), and review high-resolution digital imaging together with you. You will also see the same familiar clinician across visits for consistent, personalised care.
What advanced diagnostic technology do you use?
2
We invest continually in hospital-grade diagnostic equipment. Our examinations include:
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): A 3D scan revealing the cellular layers beneath the retina, detecting early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy years before symptoms emerge.
Ultra-Widefield OCT: The latest technology allows us to do an incredibly wide OCT, highlighting any peripheral issues on the retina.
Digital Corneal Topography & Tonometry: Precision surface mapping and gentle pressure monitoring.
How often should I have an eye examination?
3
For most adults, we recommend a comprehensive review every two years. However, we suggest annual examinations for:
Patients aged 60 and over
Children under 16
Individuals with diabetes, family history of glaucoma, or evolving optical prescriptions
Contact lens wearers
How do you select your frame collections?
4
We intentionally steer away from mass-produced licensing brands. Instead, we curate independent, artisan eyewear houses that prioritise:
Handcrafted manufacturing (using materials like Japanese titanium, Mazzucchelli acetate, and genuine horn)
Ergonomic weight distribution and long-term durability
Distinctive, design-led aesthetics that celebrate individuality rather than brand logos
Why does the choice of optical lens matter so much?
5
I’ve struggled with varifocals (progressive lenses) before. Can you help?
6
Many patients experience issues with varifocals due to standardized fitting or budget lens geometry. We use bespoke digital dispensing technology to customize the progression corridor to your natural reading posture and head movement. Because of our meticulous measurements, we offer a Non-Tolerance Guarantee—ensuring you adapt comfortably or we adjust your lenses at no extra cost.
Do you fit specialist or complex contact lenses?
7
Your prescription is only as effective as the lenses through which it is delivered. We partner with world-leading optical lens laboratories (such as Zeiss, Tokai, and Hoya) to fit individualized digital lenses. These offer:
Wider, distortion-free fields of vision (critical for varifocals/progressives)
Tailored anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, and UV coatings
Thinner, lighter profiles even for complex or high prescriptions
Yes. Alongside daily and monthly soft contact lenses, we fit specialist lenses, including:
Toric & Multifocal contact lenses for astigmatism and presbyopia
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K / Night lenses): Gentle overnight lenses that correct your vision while you sleep, eliminating the need for daytime glasses or lenses
Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) & Scleral lenses for irregular corneas or keratoconus
Do you offer dry eye assessments and myopia management?
8
Yes. We offer dedicated clinics for:
Dry Eye Therapy: Identifying the root cause (such as Meibomian Gland Dysfunction) and providing targeted in-clinic and at-home treatment plans.
Myopia Control for Children: Evidence-based interventions (specialised spectacle lenses like MiYOSMART/Stellest, Ortho-K, and dual-focus contact lenses) designed to slow the progression of nearsightedness.
Are independent opticians significantly more expensive?
9
While our pricing reflects higher clinical time, specialist equipment, and premium materials, we offer exceptional value. Premium frames and precision lenses last significantly longer, fit more comfortably, and deliver clearer vision. We offer transparent pricing across all tiers and transparent breakdowns of consultation fees and optical products.
